I am a Professor of Art, Emeritus and have taught art subjects for many years. My methods of teaching center on the student(s) and I give assignments based upon their level of knowledge and then proceed to assist them in developing their own abilities and interests. I believe in the insight of each individual and her/his own personal characteristics and potential. Each student is different in this regard and I celebrate these differences. Assignments given are in a progression toward a thorough knowledge of the subject studied. An assignment is given, the student proceeds to complete that assignment and then the results are reviewed with the instructor. This leads to a second assignment that builds on the first, and then the process is repeated. This program works well and the student senses progress and acheivement.
I have taught art for nearly 50 years. This has included thousands of students. Students have received Bachelor of Arts diplomas from accredited institutions and many have found jobs within the art world and outside of the art world as well.
I have earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota (that had and has a fine art program) and a Master of Fine Arts Degree from Bowling Green State Univerisity, Bowling Green, Ohio where I was a Graduate Assistnant and Teaching Fellow. I have received awards for my paintings in exhibitions at the Toledo Museum of Art, Toledo, Ohio, the Mansfield Fine Arts Guild, Mansfield, Ohio, The Red River Art Center, Moorhead, Minnesota, and the O'Melvaney Gallery in Los Angeles, California.
