Detroit Artist, Reading/ESL Teacher and Social Reconstructivist (a person who believes everyone can learn) seeks position
I have earned a BFA in Fine Arts, Masters of Education and Ed Specialist in Bi-Cultural Curriculum and Design. I hold a current State of Michigan Teacher certification in Elementary (all subjects), Fine Arts, English as a Second Language and Learning Disabilities. I have taught infants to elderly people in a variety of venues (public, charter, private, non-profit organizations and a state university (teach education) for over 25 years. I also have training in art therapy and trauma informed practice.
I envision a healthy, flourishing planet and society that sustainably and equitably meets the needs of all its inhabitants through an educational reform movement that is diverse, inclusive, successful, vibrant, and relevant, taking into account the needs, perspectives, and voices of all.
My school closed permanently in June of 2016 and I am looking for opportunities to "teach" individuals and small groups. I use multisensory approaches to teach reading and English as a Second language and infuse art and other creative approaches to learning. In terms of art lessons, I can help beginners, seniors who are preparing a portfolio for college, or just people who want to make art and/or improve their skills.
My rates would vary only by distance traveled and are negotiable.
