School Counselor- Lahaina Intermediate School. I worked as a tenured School Counselor in a middle school on Maui, grades 6-8. This is was a very culturally diverse population with groups such as Hawaiian, Filipino, Japanese, Tongan, Samoan, Mexican, and Caucasian. I started in the position, for the 2011-2012 school year, during which I was the 7th grade level counselor, and moved up with the students until they left for high school. The job was a balance of individual counseling, group counseling including peer mediation and special groups such as grief groups. In addition, I was the gatekeeper with regards to academics. I initiated referrals for assessment, scheduled and held all parent teacher conferences for my grade level, coordinated with parents, teachers, and administration, tracked attendance records, worked with the Special Education and English Language Learner programs, and assisted with career education/planning.
