Accent-free English & flawless writing for business or romance—decades experience! Fun 1-on-1 or small professional group hosted by discrete published author in Harvard Square.

Methodology

I love helping professionals feel confident and happy expressing clear thoughts and emotions in writing, and without an accent.

First, in a fun question & answer session, we identify your goals and priorities. That way, we swiftly shape the class to your specific needs.

You will enjoy an interesting mix of short and long writing assignments, reading aloud, being read to, extemporaneous conversation, and thesaurus word play.

You will write well and speak accent-free. Professional colleagues will marvel at your ability to distinguish between synonym, antonym, homonym, homograph, homophone, and cognate when you write and speak with confidence.

Background

A multi-lingual native English speaker, I authored, ghostwrote, development-edited dozens of books and edited works by best-selling authors

—in ESL science/business, fine art, memoir, historic fiction, comedy, bodice ripper, thriller, young adult—

published by Scala Arts Publishers, Assouline, Bantam Publishing, Hachette/Center Street, Amazon, and other publishers.

I credit my BA from Wells College, lifelong travel on 4 continents, my multi-lingual parents, & having fledged 2 Ivy League children of my own.

Letter of Recommendation #1/6

From Dr. Felix Lutz author of "Branding the Nation: Neuromarketing and the Super Bowl
—The Great American Pow Wow"

Why hire Ghia Szwed-Truesdale as your Editor?
Working with Ghia was a very pleasurable experience because she is very professional and dedicated. I can highly recommend working with her because she really cares for your work.

What impact did Ghia's efforts have on the quality of your book?
Ghia´s input was very important because she criticized, questioned and improved my thoughts and ideas constantly – which gave me the opportunity to improve on the text during the writing process. She came up with ideas that brought up new aspects of the topic. Since I am not a native English speaker, she polished and brought my English to life, made it fluent and elegant.

What constituted Developmental Editor for your book, “Branding the Nation”?
I was always amazed about how deeply Ghia got involved with the topic and how much time she spent on improving my thoughts and ideas, producing new perspectives and twists which I had not thought about.

Have you any suggestions to make it a better experience for both author / editor?
I could not think of anything to improve my work experience with her. She is absolutely dedicated, drives your effort and is always there for you when you need her. I will definitely write my next book with her as well.

What lessons did you learn that would cause you to do it differently next time?
The only thing that I would change is that I have to plan for more time for myself for the research process. Ghia was fast, worked parallel with me and the only “problem” we had was the six hour time difference between Berlin and Boston. But even this was convenient. When I woke up in the morning, Ghia was already done with what I had sent her the night before.

Other comments or insights?
Ghia is very knowledgeable and experienced and it is fun working with her. Working with Ghia definitely was my best experience in this field ever.

Letter of Recommendation #2/6
From: Sean Patrick Flanery
Date: January 25, 2016 6:21:04 PM
Subject: Recommendation Ghia Szwed-Truesdale

To whom it may concern:

Ghia is phenomenal.

My name is Sean Patrick Flanery, and I’ve been in the film business for the past 25 years (The Boondock Saints, Powder, George Lucas’ Young Indiana Jones TV series). About 4 years ago I decided to write a book, so obviously, being a mere actor, I sought guidance.

Now I’ve only written one novel, so I really have nothing to compare. But, I’ve worked and collaborated with many people in the film business and quite honestly, no one even comes close to that of my experience with Ghia. Not only did she editorially and creatively direct me, she also held my hand through selecting an agent (Erica Silverman, Trident Media Group) as well as selecting my present publisher (The Center Street imprint at Hachette Book Group). My first novel, JANE TWO, which is coming out this year, is largely a product Ghia Gabriela Szwed-Truesdale’s help. Hiring her was without question one of the best business decisions I’ve ever made. I could go on and on about her professionalism and punctuality, but her technical precision and creativity were equally if not more outstanding. She over delivered in every single aspect of our relationship. She taught me how to write.

It must sound a bit ridiculous to read an endorsement so full of praise. And I honestly tried to think of ways to convey her value without having it sound unbelievable. But the truth is, she IS that valuable. I plan on working with her again and again. I’ve never been as confident endorsing someone so whole-heartedly. If there are any questions I can answer in person, please feel free to call or email at any time.

I’ve met very few in my lifetime… but she’s one of the good ones.

Sincerely,
Sean Patrick Flanery

To whom it may concern:

I’m lucky. I’ve had some outstanding artistic mentors in my life. A college professor who encouraged and enabled me to pursue writing. A theatre director who helped light a path as I formed my production company. A neighbor, a little old lady, whose collection of leather bound classics (as well as a few ‘bodice rippers’) both intrigued and inspired me at an early age.
But my word, I’d trade them all, including the handsome hipster who worked the register at a SoHo bookstore for one golden nugget, one jeweled thought, one gemmed suggestion by Ms. Ghia Szwed-Truesdale. I kid you not, the woman changed my life.

After acquiring me as an author for a publishing start up’s titillating new genre, Ghia and I worked closely on the development-edit process of a series of books based on my NYC-based theatre company, Carnival Girls. And so began a phenomenal creative journey built on trust, respect and collaboration.

She’s smart and intuitive. Kind and generous. And all-around brilliant. I loved every bit of my experience working with Ghia and I pray that I get the chance to do it again. To be under her wing is truly a writer’s dream.

Please feel free to contact me for more gushing. I’d be honored to have the opportunity to provide further insight on the behalf of such an incredible artist, editor, mentor and woman.

My best,
Christie Perfetti Williams

To whom it may concern:

It is my great pleasure to recommend Ghia Szwed-Truesdale.

My ability to recognize superior talent and intelligence has served me will throughout my career, and I recognized Ghia’s value immediately. I’ve known Ghia for several years now, and hold her in high esteem. She has acted as a consultant on some of my recent projects, and I greatly appreciate her point of view, which is always both creative and strategic.

Ghia has an exceptional ability to recognize new opportunities, and is equally adept at creating and implementing action plans. Her ability to collaborate with others and build relationships irrespective of cultural differences is remarkable. She is well-connected, and generously shares her contacts whenever she believes there may be a potential for mutual benefit.

Beyond her array of business skills and her entrepreneurial spirit, Ghia also is endowed with other assets that I think would make her an ideal fit. She is one of the most well-educated and genuinely cultured women I have ever known. She can discuss art, literature, and – of course – music with equal aplomb. She’s a gifted and accomplished writer, who can research and edit absolutely anything!

Last, but most emphatically not least, she is fun to work with – an en pointe team player who keeps everyone smiling.

Please feel free to contact me if you should have any additional questions.

Sincerely,
Steve Leber
CEO, The Leber Group

Letter of Recommendation #5/6

From Chuck Taylor
March 23, 2016

To whom it may concern:

Working with Ghia Szwed-Truesdale is like playing with Ghia. While a consummate professional, her endless enthusiasm and outpouring of creativity make every project remarkably fulfilling and fun—and more to the point, a blazing success.

I have worked with this remarkable lady on a number of projects across music, literary and arts & entertainment platforms—and in nearly every case, Ghia was the driver who drafted me as part of her creative team. I’m a writer; you give me an assignment and a deadline and I shall deliver. Ghia is a visionary… that rare professional talent who understands how to craft a notion from idea to project into reality. She is strategic, momentously detail-oriented, and driven with positivity.

On the music side, I have worked with Ghia as both a lyricist and a partner in successfully released independent song and album projects. She can edit any Rorschach or generic ink spill and turn it into a concept and lyrics. And her ear is keen… perhaps not as keen as mine, mind you, but awfully competitive!

My career pedigree includes three decades as a professional entertainment industry journalist, including 14 years at Billboard magazine in New York as a Senior Editor, writer, reporter and columnist. There, I wrote cover stories on artists that span the decades, from Celine Dion and Elton John to Bette Midler, James Taylor and Tony Bennett. I have been interviewed on an array of radio, music and pop culture topics on ABC's “20/20,” “CBS Evening News,” CNN, VH1's “Behind the Music,” MTV, BBC and E!; and have been quoted in the New York Times, USA Today, TV Guide, People, Parade, Entertainment Weekly and numerous others.

To wrap, as a consummate entrepreneur, Ghia possesses both wisdom… and warmth. She is indeed the real deal, with a great smile, to boot.

Best regards,
Chuck Taylor

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am pleased to write you this referral letter regarding my experience with and impressions of Ghia Szwed-Truesdale.

I operate an independent record label “Young Pals Music” based in New York. Through the years, I worked with Ghia for many different projects, some of which are marketing and production of an American Idol single and video, and producing a fundraising project to raise awareness for Haiti Earthquake victims in 2010, and fundraising for an original musical (“Swedish Style”) to bring it to Broadway. The list goes on and on. Ghia’s determination, focus and bold actions have always returned to us as winning points in these co-operational projects. Her network and ability to enlarge her circle of business colleagues would always help us deliver the project with substantial support and resources. She is an excellent team-player, collaborator. Her compassion and faith in her work inspired all of us working to get results sooner and bigger.
I strongly recommend her for all her future endeavors. Wherever she aims to work, success comes so easily with her business and creative intuitions.

Please do not hesitate to contact me for further information, if you need to.

Best Regards,

Ayhan Sahin
