My lessons are clearly explained step by step. I base my classes on foundation skills, art history and your personal expressive goals.I use a lot of visual examples to learn from and inspire. Progress and successes always happen if you try :) My teen student have won awards and scholarships. My college students have created wonderful work for their portfolios that have lead to jobs at creative companies.
I have been teaching and making art for many years. I have a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts where i focussed on drawing and sculpture. And I have a Masters degree in Mixed media where I focussed on printmaking, book making and watercolor with pastels mixed media drawings. I studied drawing, painting and hollowware in Mexico. I love black and white but also color. I have taught color theory for 18 years and find it quite helpful whenever I make color choices. I also work in metals; hollowware, taking flat circles of copper and hammering until they are 3-Dimensional forms (bowls and lidded containers). I have been exhibiting my artwork often- 4 shows this year!

I have had a number of classes with Amy and I highly recommend her. She is funny and caring and her passion for art pushes you to do your best work. Her instructions are clear and her critiques are gentle but will point you in the right direction.
I hired Amy many years ago shortly after she received her MFA from Portland State University. She previously taught high school art so she had good experience in organizing the classroom experience. Amy is an expert teacher and artist and this fuels her teaching. She is energetic and compassionate and she really knows how to motivate her students, and they love her for it.
I recommend Amy Ruedinger because she is a good artist and a good teacher. She is an expert at creating the conditions in the classroom to make art and she is dedicated to her student's learning.
As a former student of Amy’s, I believe she is one of the best fine arts teachers I had ever taken a course with. Her approach to teaching mixes logic with artistic freedom, and she lets the students decide how they would prefer to tackle a project while still giving clear guidelines. Her critiques of student work are honest and detailed, and she strives to make sure her students truly understand the concepts she is teaching and how they apply to their work. She pays great attention to each and every student in her class and makes their learning her priority. She gives every tool needed in order to become successful, and creates a very comfortable and safe working environment. She truly cares about what she is teaching and the success of her students, and if given the opportunity, I would definitely be in her class again!
