I am certified to teach K-12 Art in SC and NC. I have a MAT from the University of South Carolina. I love to teach children and adults of all ages. My favorite part of Art is the hands on work and experimentation with different materials and techniques. Of course, you cannot have Art without Art history and the famous artists, important vocabulary, like elements and principles of Art. I have taught children with different abilities, ESL students and EC students. In fact, I would say that differentiation is one of my strengths as a teacher. I also give detailed feedback to students so they understand their progress. At school, I make sure that my students get to experience different techniques and mediums, that means drawing, painting, printmaking, metal art, sculpture, recycled art, weaving, batik, etc. I want all my students to have a wonderful learning experience.
I have student taught at Irmo elementary school and Lexington high in SC. Upon my graduation, I taught for 3 years at Saluda Middle School where I had close to 600 students each year. I recently moved to Charlotte where I taught at Thunderbird Preparatory Academy. I am also teaching after school Art classes at the Mooresville Art guild. I was also the Young Artist Workshop coordinator at USC and have worked with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts in Saluda to help them earn their pottery badges. While at the Middle School I collaborated with the High School Art teacher to make sure my students were prepared for Art class by the time they got there. I love to challenge my students and as much as I enjoy Pinterest, I make sure my lessons are unique.
My child loves taking art classes with Ms. Carter. He learns something new every week and it helps him at school also. He loves experimenting with different materials and techniques while learning about the famous artists.
I would highly recommended Mrs Carter as an instructor!
