Calling adults and children who want to learn English and those who know English but want to learn how to read and write better.

Methodology

I use a variety of teaching methods depending upon my initial assessment of my student's English speaking, reading and writing ability. It also depends upon what the student tells me what they want to learn e.g. vocabulary, writing, comprehension etc. I use a student centric approach and believe that learning my doing is far superior to learning by memorization.

Background

I have an undergraduate degree in English/Education and a Master's degree in Public Communication. I have used that education to hone my skills as a senior business manager, substitute teacher and ESL tutor for over 30 years.

Rates

Transportation Fee : $5
Rate for online lessons : $30/h
Rate for 5 hours of lessons : $25
Rate for 10 hours of lessons : $22

Details

I prefer to work on a mileage basis rather than on a flat rate. I believe the rate should be set at 50 cents/mile. Cancellation must be 24 hours in advance or the student will be charged the regular tutorial fee.
You will be responsible for paying for your books and workbooks.

Gayle's resume

Boston University M.S. Public Communications, 1974
University of Michigan, B.A. English from the School of Education
Provisionally licensed to teach English in Massachusetts.

I have been substituting in grades K1 through grade 12 since 2003. In addition to that work, I have tutored English language learners from many countries around the world.

Prior to my teaching career, I worked for 15 years as an international executive search consultant for American high technology companies. Before that, I worked in consumer packaged goods marketing for major U.S. companies like H.P. Hood, BASF, Parker Brothers etc.

My very first jobs following graduate school were as Director of Public Relations for the Boston Stock Exchange and as Bicentennial Coordinator for The Gillette Company.

All my work experience, other than teaching, has involved communicating to the press, suppliers, customers and team members in a clear and concise way. I have planned and executed numerous events; introduced many successful new products, and was able to communicate effectively with many cultures and business partners all over the world.
