Gentlepersons
I appreciate you are reading my education resume. I just arrived at The American School of Durango (ASD) MEXICO on Aug. 2018, after being at ESCUELA BELLA VISTA (EBV) in Maracaibo-Venezuela since 2009. I started at EBV as a Karate-do Instructor and founded the club on that discipline. A colleague at EBV, also an alumni of the University of Wisconsin System, encouraged me to apply for a science position. This brought me exposure to the youthful and striving international students in a very jovial and energetic ambiance, while I pour into it my significant academic and industrial (petrochemical, USA patent holder) background.
I lived in my home country Venezuela since 1988, after an 8-year stand in USA for graduate and postdoctoral work in Chemical Physics. My wife and I came back from the USA with two daughters (Monica and Andrea) and had a boy -Daniel- in Maracaibo. We have raised them happy and very well prepared for this global society we are immersed nowadays. Each one is carrying out their own lives, and we thought it was time for both of us to be together and explore again people and places as we are healthy and very productive: She has been the manager for our Karate Academy; I held concurrent positions at EBV, Full professor of Organic and Freshman Chemistry at UNIVERSIDAD RAFAEL URDANETA (Maracaibo), Instructor and Director of our Dojo. In 2016, I was granted 3rd Dan by SKIF – Japan. We have been blessed with mature and outstanding black belts that shall carry on the Academy while we are abroad.
International education has been a revelation to me. Coming from academia and industry, I had only a distant notion of it; until EBV gave me the opportunity to teach IB Chemistry SL, and set the stage for professional growth onto IB Chemistry HL, Physics IB oriented, Physical Science oriented towards IGCSE and to become IB Chemistry Examiner. Since 2014, I have also been NJHS Adviser, even though I had only taught High School. I am currently NHS Counselor at ASD.
Parents here are as everywhere, much devoted to their children and very appreciative of our caring for their off springs. I enjoy student-parent-teacher conferences, as we find common grounds rather quickly and agree in measures for improvements. I feel much satisfaction when students graduate and later stop by, telling us the many courses they were waived because of the IB Diplomma and how useful have been some particular skills they learned here.
I expect your Institution to be as exciting as those mentioned above and you can expect from me a devoted professional prompt to contribute to strengthen your program.
Regards,
Rafael Antonio Quintero Arcaya, Ph. D. (concealed information) / 0(concealed information)927 (Mobile) )
