I will begin by having a brief discussion with students as to where they think they are within their course, what their strengths and weaknesses are, what they find most interesting and enjoyable and which areas they do not enjoy. I will aim to construct lesson plans that begin by developing a sound foundation of knowledge that is necessary for the student to succeed in the course that they are studying, and offering new challenges in the areas that they do well in, as encouragement to keep up the hard work. Where students are struggling to understand material, I will provide various different perspectives from which to tackle the problem, and offer the most simple explanations before proceeding step by step to more difficult levels. For more adept students who already possess a solid foundation across the subject content, I will provide more detailed lessons that really delve to the heart of the subject matter at hand, probing the concepts behind the surface of the course to achieve a deeper understanding of the material. For the best students, I will work to take their understanding even higher by exploring concepts and knowledge that may not necessarily by required for the course, but will ensure that prior knowledge is supported by a much more scientific intuition. This will hopefully inspire these students to take this subject to a higher level of study.

Hi! My name is Martin, and I am a first year chemistry student at Durham University. My degree, though primarily chemistry, is heavily based in maths and as a result, the skills I acquired at A level have been developed considerably far beyond what would be necessary for an A level or GCSE course, so I believe that I can offer some wisdom and insight into both of these subjects!
From a young age I recall being fascinated by chemistry, and I was fortunate enough to experience the benefit of small class sizes where one-to-one time with the teacher was easy to obtain and I could really dig deep into my subjects. I sympathise that this is not always possible for a great many students, so it is my fond hope that I can help inspired young people to achieve their fullest potential by providing very personal and enthusiastic sessions that will focus on not only ironing out the weak points of the student’s knowledge, but helping them to excel in the areas they find comfortable. Exploring science and maths outside of the classroom has always been one of my passions, and I hope to share that passion and my abilities with all those who seek it.
