Classical/Jazz/Folk Violin and Composition Classes in Porto from teacher with Bachelor degree


A good technique comes with a healthy posture and physical/mental well-being and this is my number one priority in the lessons. My teaching material is adaptable depending on the age/level of the student.

I shape a progressive repertory depending on the preferred style of music. Each lessons includes a listening session and I briefly teach music history to develop my student's musical awareness.

For those who would like to have composition classes; there are plenty of methods to teach to compose; we find your strength and go with it.

I am a violinist/violist who likes to play many musical styles. I studied in several countries looking for the best education in classical music, jazz, rock and folk and I performed internationally as a member of various ensembles. I gave classes to students who formed bands, who were accepted in conservatories, who wrote their own compositions, and I also like to teach to those who wanted to learn the instrument as a hobby.

Lessons can be cancelled in case of travels or health emergencies. For any other reason of cancellation, the fee is not refundable, but we can arrange another lesson in the same week.

Perfect! Esin understands my level and pulls me up to higher level in a very short period of time. I started with almost 0 music knowledge and now in few weeks Esin has helped me compose my own music. Esin is very patient with me and I feel at ease during the lessons. Perfect! Meu filho vive música e piano desde que nasceu, sendo eu e meu marido pianistas e professores. Ao mudarmo-nos para Portugal, ele começou a aprender violino. Cerca de 4 meses depois, sentimos que precisávamos de um professor melhor e encontramos a Esin.
Ele adora as aulas com ela, a experiência com o violino e vemos todos que se trata de uma musicista muito competente e dedicada a seus alunos.

After having tried numerous teachers I finally found Esin through an acquaintance. Couldn't have been happier! Have finally achieved my (late) dream of learning to play the violin for good this time. Went back and forth for many years but then Esin came along, with her bold and unconventional practice techniques, and she made my violin playing not just technically better, but also much more sincere, if I may say so.

I remember in my first lesson she said "music is about technique and discipline and music is about passion and experimentation. While these two aspects might seem to contradict each other, it's actually this contrast that makes it all so exciting!" These words are clinging to my ears ever since and has been a road map for me, ever since. Believe me when I say this, Esin is more than a teacher.


I recommend lessons with Esin for anyone who wishes to undestrand music in general and/or the violin, and specially those interested in jazz/folk/rock. I am a classical trained violinist and I am learning a lot about my instrument in a totally different and new perspective! I can understand harmony a lot better, and my fingers are starting to follow it better through the fingerboard =) as a different approach to violin teaching/learning, I recommend this lessons.


Esin é uma violinista com experiência internacional vasta em orquestra, ensemble e solo. É uma professora exigente, paciente, orientada para cada aluno/a e com entusiasmo no processo de desenvolvimento e alcance de resultados. Alunos que queiram desenvolver-se com energia, detalhe, técnica e expressão, acompanhados de um bom relacionamento pessoal vão ficar em boas mãos. Vivemos juntas de tempos a tempos e posso presenciar a sua interacção com os alunos.


A Esin é uma professora muito profissional que cria boas amizades com os seus alunos. 1) Há quanto tempo você possui uma paixão pela música e pelo seu instrumento musical preferido? 1) How long have you had a passion for music and your favorite musical instrument?
Esin — Violin has been a part of my life since I was five years old. My passion for various music styles developed over time. I started with classical training, and during my 20 years of conservatory level education on classical and jazz music, I gained interest and experience in styles of early music, Celtic music, Sephardic music, rock, heavy metal, swing and jazz. I ended up loving improvising and composing as well, and trained for them too. Today I have active projects in all these areas.

O violino faz parte da minha vida desde os meus cinco anos de idade. A minha paixão por vários estilos musicais desenvolveu-se ao longo do tempo. Comecei com o estudo de música clássica e, durante os meus 20 anos de educação em conservatórios de música clássica e jazz, ganhei interesse e experiência em estilos de música antiga, música celta, música sefardita, rock, heavy metal, swing e jazz. No final, fiquei a adorar improvisar e compor, treinando estas abilidades também. Hoje tenho projetos ativos em todas estas áreas musicais.

2) Qual música pode ouvir sem repetição (ou ficar doido)? 2) What song can you listen to without repeating (or going crazy)?
Esin — There isn’t just one song :) I enjoy listening to kinds of music that I can’t produce on my own, such as big bands, well produced progressive rock bands, synth-full trip-hop bands. But in genres and styles I can self exist or join a group without re-writing the rules; my jazz hero is Duke Ellington, my metal heroes are the band Opeth, my classical violinist shero is Julia Fischer, my jazz violinist hero is Adam Baldych. The list can go on.

Não há só uma música :) Gosto de ouvir tipos de música que não consigo reproduzir por conta própria, como big bands, bandas de rock progressivo com boa produção, e bandas de trip-hop com tantos sintetizadores. Mas em géneros e estilos em que eu posso existir ou juntar-me a um grupo sem reescrever as regras; o meu herói do jazz é Duke Ellington, os meus heróis do metal são a banda Opeth, a minha heroína violinista clássica é Julia Fischer, o meu herói violinista jazz é Adam Baldych. 3) Conte-nos sobre uma aula mais difícil ou desafiadora que você já deu! 3) Tell us about a more difficult or challenging class you have ever given!
Esin — Volunteer teaching to a group of 15 kids with limited opportunities in life that had ages varying from 8 to 12. They’ve never had instrument lessons before. I had to invent my own system to reach to them, to their hearts as much as to their minds, and I managed to teach them not to lie or have racist behaviour (seriously!) as much as I taught them the violin.

Eu tive que inventar o meu próprio sistema para poder alcançá-los, tanto no seu coração quanto na sua mente, e consegui ensiná-los a não mentir ou ter comportamento racista (a sério!), tanto quanto eu lhes ensinei violino.

4) Which, in your opinion, is the most difficult vocal instrument / technique to play / learn and why? 4) Qual, na sua opinião, é o instrumento / técnica vocal mais difícil de tocar / aprender e porquê?
Esin — I’ll say the expected, which I believe a hundred percent; each instrument has its own difficulties and every person has their own advantages. If you have the perfect match, that instrument becomes relatively easier to you than to others. The “perfect match” can simply happen due to the motivation of the learner, or it can have something to do with various physical abilities of the learner.

Vou dizer o esperado, que acredito cem por cento; cada instrumento tem as suas próprias dificuldades e cada pessoa tem as suas próprias vantagens. Se você tiver a combinação perfeita, esse instrumento tornar-se-á relativamente mais fácil para si do que para os outros. A “combinação perfeita” pode simplesmente acontecer devido à motivação do aluno, ou pode ter algo a ver com várias habilidades físicas do aluno.

5) What do you consider to be notes for a learner's success (beyond the sun or the do) 5) O que você considera como notas para o sucesso de quem aprende (para além do sol ou fá)?
Esin — Tire your brain more than your muscles. A good practice is an efficient and sufficient practice.
Listen to music. Listen to the music you love, listen to the music you are working on, listen to the music you want to play in the future.
Nobody knows everything. Get information from multiple sources and compare.
Believe in your creativity and gut feelings.

Canse o seu cérebro mais do que os seus músculos. Um bom estudo é um estudo eficiente e suficiente.
Escutar música. Ouça a música que você ama, ouça a música em que está a trabalhar, ouça a música que deseja tocar no futuro.
Ninguém sabe tudo. Obtenha informações de várias fontes e compare.
Acredite na sua criatividade e intuição.

7) Compartilhe uma história engraçada referente à sua profissão ou experiências acadêmicas (e não gravada na festa que ocorreu após o ingresso no Conservatório)! 7) Share a funny story about your profession or academic experience (not recorded at the party after the Conservatory)!
Esin — I once “needed” to analyse, for my own joy and curiosity, an orchestral partiture of one of Prokofiev’s violin concertos. At the conservatory I was studying, only the conductors and the composition students could access the orchestra parts. This story is happening when IMSLP wasn’t around, and since I was a violin student I had no access to the parts to copy them. But I made a bet over a chess game with the librarian of the school and won, and earned the right to secretly copy them! Analyzing that score taught me so much that to this day my understanding of music theory has this experience as backbone.

Houve uma vez, em que "precisava" de analisar, para a minha própria alegria e curiosidade, uma partitura de orquestra de um dos concertos de violino de Prokofiev. No conservatório em que eu estudava, apenas os maestros e os alunos de composição podiam aceder às partituras de orquestra. Esta história aconteceu quando não havia o IMSLP e, como eu era estudante de violino, não tinha acesso às partes para copiá-las. Mas fiz uma aposta num jogo de xadrez com o bibliotecário da escola e venci, ganhando o direito de copiá-las secretamente! Analisar esta partitura ensinou-me tanto que até hoje a minha compreensão da teoria musical tem esta experiência como base.

8) What is your secret to being your favorite Superprof? 8) Qual o seu segredo para ser o (a) Superprof preferido (a) pelos seus alunos?
Esin — I believe instrumental and compositional teaching is a personal experience between the teacher and the student. So much anatomical, mathematical and emotional information can overwhelm a person if it doesn’t have fun and joy in it. I like helping people of all ages to get better at what they want to get better at, and I make sure we both are having a good time during the process. I like to be a bridge between the music and the student, and bend and gain shape based on my student’s interests and strengths. A healthy technique, solid knowledge on theory, confidence in creativity and understanding of music is required in every style of musical activity, and can be taught in every style as well.

Acredito que o ensino instrumental e de composição é uma experiência pessoal entre o professor e o aluno. Tantas informações anatómicas, matemáticas e emocionais podem sobrecarregar uma pessoa se ela não tiver diversão e alegria. Eu gosto de ajudar pessoas de todas as idades a melhorar o que elas querem melhorar e certifico-me de que nós os dois estejamo-nos divertindo durante o processo. Eu gosto de ser uma ponte entre a música e o aluno, ganhando forma com base nos interesses e pontos fortes do meu aluno. É necessário ter uma técnica saudável, um sólido conhecimento de teoria, confiança na criatividade e no entendimento da música em qualquer estilo com atividade musical, podendo também ser ensinada em todos os estilos.
