College chemistry instructor tutors chemistry--college level and below--in, and around, Boise Idaho

Methodology

I currently work and Boise State University as a lab teacher. I hold a bachelors degree in chemistry and have tutored students for upwards of ten years. I'm open to private tutoring on up to groups of 10-15 students. I have experience in general chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, inorganic chemistry, and physical chemistry (limited). I've taught many students with different learning styles and can tailor the material to your needs.

Background

Over the past ten years I've taught, on average, 30-50 students per semester. I've seen students that I privately tutored raise their grade from a C at the start of the semester to an A at the end. I've also had students in lab class say something like, "that's the first time I've understood that. Thanks for teaching it that way."

Instructing and supervising of lab students. Gained experience with lab conduct, safety, chemicals, glassware, and instruments. Specifically 10 years of experience using laboratory supplies and equipment for upper division organic chemistry labs and lower division general chemistry labs. Managing students by overseeing chemical use, safety, instrument use, and glassware use. Using and troubleshooting laboratory equipment--namely labquest units, UV-Vis spectrophotometers, IR's, and GC's. Involved with development of lab curriculum.

Lab Services Coordinator—May 2012 to March 2015
Boise State University-1910 University Dr., Boise ID 83725

1) Plan instrument schedule and chemical use for all chemistry department lab classes. Error would result in safety issues and inability to teach chemistry curriculum. Coordinates with other laboratory services coordinator, faculty, and laboratory coordinators. Review by Laboratory Manager.
2) Order new chemicals and dispose of old chemicals. Error would result in safety issues and expense. Coordinates with other laboratory services coordinator, faculty, and laboratory coordinators. Review by Laboratory Manager.
3) Selection of preparation technique and instrumentation. Error would result in safety issues and damaged equipment. Coordinates with other laboratory services coordinator, faculty, and laboratory coordinators. Review by Laboratory Manager.
4) Evaluate performance of student employees. Error would result in poor worker morale, worker liability to the university. Reviewed by Laboratory Manager.
5) Take proper corrective maintenance actions on expensive instrumentation. Error would results in large expense. Coordinate with CoAS scientific instrumentation shop and vendor technical support as needed and appropriate. Reviewed by Laboratory Manager.
6) Design, develop, implement, and instruct “best practices” on instrumentation protocols. Error would result in safety issues, hazardous conditions, expense, wasted chemicals, lost research, and broken equipment. Review by Laboratory Manager.

I highly recommend Chris as your Chemistry tutor! He's smart, nice, and very professional. Chemistry was one of my hardest subjects in college and he made it so easy to understand that I actually became interested in the subject. Use him! He's awesome!

Chemistry can be a very intimidating subject, but Chris is very kind and patient. He genuinely cares about his students. Chris was one of my very first chemistry instructor's, and he made the subject interesting and fun. Chemistry will never be easy, but Chris will give you the tools necessary to be successful in the subject.
