I am a college student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I have helped tutor kids in subjects such as math, reading and creative writing. I think it is important to deal with each student uniquely and appeal to the specific learning needs of each student. Every child doesn't learn the same so my teaching techniques tend to vary. I think it is very important to bring enthusiasm and patience to the lesson so that students are encouraged and looking forward to learning the material that is problematic to them.
While I was in middle school I helped primary students with all subject matters. In high school I also was a H.O.P.E leadership mentor/tutor and I helped the incoming freshman students in my study hall group with whatever homework they struggled with. I have also worked at the Champaign park district and two different day cares within the last two years where I helped primary and school aged kids with all subject matters. I felt especially helpful when I helped one of my students with ADHD tackle addition and subtraction easily appealing to his specific needs. I taught him plenty of methods until we settled on one that he felt extremely comfortable using.
