I generally have experience with younger students ranging from grades 4-7. These students are typically beginners. Therefore, my lessons are tailored accordingly, in which I focus on teaching essential vocabulary and grammar structures that students who are just starting to learn Chinese would encounter. I use materials from my own study courses and often refer to various passages and exercises from them. As I have mostly worked with kids, my teaching approach is linear and easy to follow. Additionally, it is centered on engaging students in such a way that fosters a desire to continue learning beyond our lessons. Students will be introduced to various aspects of the Chinese culture so as to demonstrate Mandarin's day-to-day applicability as well as its intersectionality with China's rich culture.
High school experience:
- Tutored 6th graders that were having difficult times in their respective Mandarin classes; students saw significant improvements in comprehension and writing ability
- Offered free lessons to elementary school students involved in the program City Squash; students developed an interest to continue studying the language outside of the classroom
