Is learning Spanish frustrating/scary? I say- it's time to "DEJAR LOS EGOS AFUERA" or check your ego at the door. As your instructor or tutor, my focus is to identify your weaknesses in order to prepare and execute lessons or activities that will improve your abilities in a judgement-free learning environment. In this way, I help give birth to the confidence you need to continue learning and overcome any obstacles you may face.
I am a passionate and caring teacher who understands the struggles of learning a second language and through my years of experience have become the inspiration for many students who have told me they have never learned or gained so much from classes they had taken previously. The point of second language acquiring is not for the teacher to show off all of their accolades, but for the teacher to seek out which method(s) will help my student(s) succeed based off each and every one of their varying needs and levels.
My passion for the Spanish language sparked at the ripe age of 11. I cannot explain why, having no Spanish-speaking influences or relatives in my life at that time. But as a young learner, I began helping my classmates and my lust to build my vocabulary and expertise in the language proved insatiable inside the confines of a classroom. I wanted to be fluent and begin to use the language in real-life situations.
Flash forward to present day, I have now had my MA of Spanish Literature and Language for over five years and have established nearing 8 years of teaching Spanish at the university level. I have taught courses covering the basics of grammar in lower level courses to tutoring analysis of Golden Age theater or 1930s poetry. My favorite courses to teach would have to include the conversation classes I have taught over the years.
I have experience working with collegiate pupils of all levels and even non-traditional students- older adults who have returned to school for their degrees later in life.
One of the most rewarding and fun ways I teach Spanish is on a study abroad program in Spain every summer. A group of over 100 students come from New York, Florida and California to learn Spanish for four to six weeks in Malaga and Madrid. Not only do I love teaching them the complexities and depth of the language they are immersed in, but I also enjoy showing them around the awe-inspiring sights of the country that I lived in for two years.
Prices negotiable depending on needs and level
Andria was my professor in Madrid for the Study Abroad Program this past summer. Her teaching skills are exceptional. Though the course was only four weeks long, she managed to cover a lot of materials in a short amount of time, and was able to explain every lesson well. Her passion for teaching showed in the way she taught us. In addition, her class was fun and engaging, and personally, I enjoyed and learned a lot from her. After the summer, I had gained so much confidence in using Spanish in my daily life. Furthermore, she made a great impact on me and because of that I have decided to continue my studies and pursue an associate’s degree in Spanish.
She is the kind of professor that makes sure her students understand the material before moving to another topic, and if they don't, she takes the time to explain the lesson carefully and will give ample exercises to practice. She assesses her students’ weaknesses and uses methods that are tailored to their needs. Andria is caring, helpful, and patient. She also encourages and challenges her students to get out of their comfort zones. And for all these reasons, I recommend Andria as an instructor or tutor.
I had Professor Andria over the summer for Intermediate Spanish. She was beyond fantastic. Her lesson plans were fun and informative. She made sure everyone understood the material before moving on. Her attention I detail in explaining difficult material is unlike I’ve ever seen before in any professor. Her extensive knowledge of language goes beyond the textbook and into how people actually speak Spanish. She is the best foreign language professor I’ve ever had and I’ve a bunch over my academic career. Highly recommend.
