There is no shortcut to learning math other than repetition. However the basics are needed first prior to mastery before anything else. Once the basics have been mastered, there should be no thought needed to use the basics, and often it is helpful to be able to work backwards sometimes with the answer in hand using examples to understand the workings of how problems are solved easier. As well, "there is no one way to skin a cat..." and there will be multiple ways to looked at solving problems to see which way might be easiest for you.
I am an ex-elementary and adult education teacher with over 9 years of experience in grades 2-12th grade. I can provide you with both materials and insight on how your math will become helpful in the everyday world once mastered!
