The first thing is your times tables... Everyone of my students has to be able to do their times tables in their heads instantly.... It is a MUST to be a successful mathematician. Next are the basic rules of mathematics. The order of operations, this is just securing the foundations for successful mathematics. Then we move off into different subjects.
I was once a professional sailor and a boat builder. I was caught up in the sailing world in Europe and the USA for quite some time before returning to Australia to continue Advanced Composite Boat Building... However I knew that I had a mathematical brain that I needed to utilize one day. There was a recession in the economy in around 2010 and the first thing off the budget is boats. So I put my head down and studied hard for two years to get up to speed. I sat the STAT test and was accepted into an Engineering Science degree at ECU in WA. I then transferred to UOW in Wollongong where I am from.
