« I have known Marie professionally for approximately eighteen years having taught 5th grade with her my first year of teaching. I consider having Marie on staff to be a considerable asset. She continually offers many interesting and challenging lessons to enrich our curriculum while meeting the individual needs of her students on a daily basis. Her hands-on approach to teaching fully engages students and inspires them. She considers each child’s learning style and can regularly be found incorporating technology into her classroom to engage students. She is a committed and caring teacher. Marie has completed extensive training in literacy instruction. She is fully versed in Corrective Reading and the middle school WriteWell Program. She is experienced with both AIMSWeb benchmarking and progress monitoring tools and NWEA MAP testing. She is also familiar with the MC3 social studies curriculum having taught it for three years. This training will serve her well as she moves on to new adventures. In closing, I feel Marie is an exceptional educator. She goes both above and beyond what is expected of her to challenge our students regularly. »

English Language & Social Studies Savvy For Middle School, Conversational French, Spanish

Methodology

I have a Masters Degree in Teaching; my bachelors degree was from Central Michigan University and Masters from Wayne State University. I have also earned an Educational Technology Endorsement from the University of Michigan-Dearborn. My grade point average has been a 3.8 in my undergrad and 4.0 in my graduate courses. I have always pushed myself to do my best and have been a hard worker in my courses. I would say my teaching practices have centered on challenging my students to try their best, but realize that everyone has their own unique learning style; I just want children to reach their goals in education.

Background

I have over 20 years public and private school teaching experience. I have taught primarily middle school in a public setting in metro Detroit. I have also taught in a private Christian school setting, which I enjoyed a great deal. I have team taught and have always believed that children can excel in anything if given the opportunity to learn at their own pace and interest level. My usual classroom load has been approximately 25-30 students. I was awarded "Teacher of the Year" in 2008 for my work with students as the director of the Ford Mentoring project and really enjoyed being the Spelling Bee director in my school for the past several years.
