Mathematics is the subject in which you can know whether you know something or not, and this is what I teach - the taste of knowledge. I focus on problem solving, since this is the acid test of whether you understand a concept or not.
I am an applied mathematician, and have worked in finance, computer graphics, and scientific research, and in all these fields I have found elements of mathematics I learned in high school to be indispensable. I taught and tutored many subjects while earning my degrees, and I have also worked with a number of high school students over the years, helping them gain confidence in what they needed to know.
PhD in Mathematics from City University of New York Graduate Center.
Worked in scientific research at Rockefeller University, in the areas of neural network modeling of the brain, and artificial intelligence approaches to problem solving in molecular biology.
Worked on Wall Street as a quantitative strategist, modeling risk in equity portfolios.
Worked in predictive analytics, "big data", and statistical modeling.
In all of these activities, I needed to know logarithms, trigonometry, and calculus!
Perfect! Michael has a prolific knowledge of mathematics, and a deep passion for the subject. His love for math shines through in his engaging and inspiring teaching!
He inspired me and helped me gain so much more confidence in math, that I have changed the direction of my career.
All I can simply say is - you would be so lucky to have Michael as your math teacher!
I’ve known Michael for over 30 years and consider him one of the best teachers I have ever had. Whether you are struggling to master a particular area of math, or enjoy math and want to leap ahead to master the next level, Michael is the best guide and teacher you will find! His patience seems limitless and I suppose this is because tutoring is like solving a math problem itself: breaking things down into component parts and moving forward in simple steps. His total mastery of the subject is put to use calibrating his instructions so that I feel a growing sense of confidence. Every time I meet with him for math instruction I come away thing, “that actually was fun!”
