I received my MSc in Geochemistry from Ohio University in 2016 and a BSc in Geology and Creative writing from the University of Illinois in 2013. I spent a year doing post-graduate research at the University of Victoria (Canada) studying Earth and Ocean Sciences, and received a certificate in Higher Education Teaching and Learning through the Teaching and Learning Center at UVic.
I try to support students by making sure that they are comfortable in what they already know so that they can apply their knowledge to more challenging material with ease. It's never fun to feel overwhelmed by school, and I hope to ease the academic stress as much as possible. Learning can be fun, I promise.
I am comfortable helping elementary, middle, and high school aged students in math, science, and reading/writing, and preparing high school students to pass AP, ACT, and/or SAT exams.
I have three years experience teaching college level geology courses as a teaching assistant, laboratory instructor, and as a lecturer, and have tutored high school and college level students in various math and science material. I have worked with students as young as first grade in after school classes to teach reading and provide care.
During my post-graduate studies, I participated in a research cruise where I acted as an outreach broadcaster to present basic geology lessons and ongoing science being done abroad the ship and to answer students questions from classrooms in the US and Canada from the middle of the ocean.
Additionally, I have experience helping students edit essays and short stories, and to perfect and craft their writing skills in one-on-one and in work shop settings.
