I teach elementary/intermediate French in similar styles. I teach grammatical concepts as the basis of each lesson and then add on vocabulary. Often I prepare games for students to recall vocabulary and practice writing/speaking it. I focus on the student producing the language rather than passively absorbing it (although they will listen to me speak French quite a bit as well). If the student is preparing for an exam, I will attempt to recreate the style of questions on the exam for practice. I have a lot of patience and will repeat or explain things in a different way as often as necessary.
I am a recent college graduate from St. Lawrence University where I majored in French, German, and Chinese, with French being my language of concentration. I spent an entire school year abroad in Rouen, France, where I attended a French university and spoke virtually no English. I have tutored French to my peers since I was in high school, and loved it so much that I became a teaching assistant for elementary French classes in college. I also simultaneously worked as a French writing tutor where I specifically guided students through their writing process and provided one on one support. I was once in the French students shoes, and I know what works for English students learning French! I drill students on verb congujations and place a heavy emphasis on continually reviewing material. Just because you have learned it once does not mean you will remember it! I help students create memory devices to remember vocabulary and grammatical concepts. I love teaching songs as a way of remembering and I focus a lot on creating a comfortable, fun, learning environment. I believe that every student has the capability to succeed in foreign language, it is only a matter of applying oneself. Let me help you or your child pass their French exams and deepen their appreciation for the most beautiful language in the world!
Abigail is an amazing teacher! She is an incredibly hard worker, very patient, and creative. She comes up with the best activities that are both challenging and fun. She has awesome tricks and tips that are a huge asset to her teaching style. She is a great teacher and you will not be disappointed!
Abbie was my french 101 Lab instructor during my spring 2018 semester. She was incredible. Not only was she extremely patient and caring, she also challenged us to learn the language she loves so dearly. Her passion for french made us want to learn. The way she taught was easy to follow while also being super fun! One example would be the song she taught us in order to learn the verb "to be" in the present tense. The song was catchy so I always knew I would remember it for quizzes for tests to come. I highly recommend Abbie for anything related to learning a new language. She's the best!
