My teaching methodology is that every student is different. I do not think one teaching plan fits all and therefore, I approach each student based on the their needs. For some students, test anxiety is an area of challenge. For others, it is concentration, organization, or time management. I incorporate these important lessons into their individually-tailored lesson plans. I use many methods, including lecturing, open discussion, vocabulary lists and flashcards, word games, and music. The first time we meet, I will assess you or your child's needs, your expectations, and the areas you feel need work.
I am a recent UC Santa Barbara graduate with a BA in History and Spanish. I have 10 years of experience volunteer teaching and tutoring kids ages 5-18. I peer tutored for 8 years through high school and college and have experience creating my own lesson plans for large groups of students in my volunteer work. I am very comfortable teaching AP test preparation for US and World History, US Government, Macroeconomics, Spanish, English Language, and Literature. I am also comfortable teaching elementary subjects and math up to 6th grade. I teach high school History, English, and Spanish and most college-level humanities classes. Currently I am a part time tutor as well as a volunteer mentor at a middle school. I plan to get a substitute teaching certification in February 2020 and begin a master's in education and teaching credential as well.

I was a Girl Scout for 13 years. During that time I participated in many volunteer projects, including making care baskets for US troops, raising money for charities that provide underprivileged children with books, and teaching children about caring for the environment. I learned how to manage money by selling cookies and nuts and how to create lasting, professional and casual interpersonal relations. I earned my Bronze and Silver Awards by coming up with and executing my own volunteer projects and I am proud to continue to live by the Girl Scout Law, which teaches young women to be honest, fair, friendly and helpful, strong and courageous, respectful and environmentally wise and to take care of herself and others
I know Rachel as a coworker and friend at a tutoring platform during my gap-year between undergrad and graduate work. Rachel has a great sense of empathy. She's patient, friendly, and I've noticed that she's great at addressing stress with her students, giving them the tools and confidence they need to succeed in their education. Although I'm not working as a tutor anymore, she's decided to make teaching her career, and I know she'll do great work in her journey. You'll find a cheerful, smart, and patient tutor with Rachel; she's taught me some Spanish when we hung out together, and it morphed into this interesting tangent about contrasts between the Spanish in Spain and in Latin America, and how pidgin languages fit in. She was teaching me history and I didn't even realize it! I would for sure recommend her to anyone looking for great guidance with Spanish, History, or English.
