My primary tutoring experience has been with K-6 students and students with special needs, but I would consider tutoring higher level writing or reading. I would also be qualified to tutor anyone who is trying to obtain a GED.
I like to adapt my lessons to the style of learning that best suits my students. Sometimes we might have to try a few types of lessons to determine what works best. I will do my best to include stimulation of as many of the senses in my lessons as possible to help achieve subject matter retention, engagement, and just plain fun. I find it effective and enjoyable to also incorporate games to enhance learning whenever possible.
I have been teaching children since I was 16 years old. I was a gymnastics instructor for 20 years, a swimming instructor for 4 years, a teacher assistant for 6 years, ran remedial reading groups of 5 during those 6 years, I have personally tutored seven 2nd-5th grade students and 2 middle school students with special needs (one of which I recently found out graduated with honors), a substitute teacher for 12 years, ran the arts and crafts program at a day camp, and I currently provide one on one assistance and teaching to people with special needs at their jobs. On top of my years of experience and education, I also have a Washington State Lifetime Substitute Certificate and a Washington State Residency Teaching Certificate.
Most of all, I have a passion for learning and love to teach anyone who wants to learn.
