My methodology has been and always will be to provide an inclusive and differentiated environment for students. I understand that each and every student learns in to a different capacity and I aim to accommodate students needs by tailoring my approach to teaching to suit.
I am a geography and sociology graduate whereby I went on to become a high school teacher. To do this I undertook a Professional Masters in Education. I am Irish and new to Toronto and I cannot wait to immerse myself in the education system over here.
Profile: I am a hardworking, committed individual who thrives under pressure. I enjoy working on my own initiative or in a team environment. I am highly motivated and extremely trustworthy, as well as being friendly, punctual and an enthusiastic team player.

TEACHING PRACTICE – YEAR 1
Date: September 2016 – May 2017
Larkin Community College,
Cathal Brugha Street,
My first year of placement was undertaken in Larkin College where I taught a mix of Geography and CSPE classes to three 1 st year groups. I was their sole teacher and I was responsible for their learning experience and behaviour. Throughout my time in Larkin College I took part in after-school evening study each week for both Junior and Senior students as well as classroom supervisions for absent teachers. From my time in Larkin College I became an energetic and optimistic individual as a result of a number of demanding and complex experiences with students. These experiences have helped shape my current outlook on teaching.
TEACHING PRACTICE – YEAR 2
Date: September 2017 – June 2018
Drimnagh Castle CBS,
Long Mile Road,
Year 2 of my teaching practice has been undertaken in Drimnagh Castle CBS, whereby I have taught primarily 1st and 2nd year class groups Geography and CSPE. As well as teaching these subjects I have been heavily involved in classroom supervision which has allowed for me to be exposed to other year groups other than the ones I already teach. Alongside this I have been the superintendent for the Leaving Certificate Art exam and LCVP exam, Junior Certificate Art exams house exams and lunch time supervision. Working alongside my co-operating teachers and other staff in the school I am extensively involved in the planning and delivering of classes, as well as keeping administrative records as regards attendee, test results, classroom behaviour etc. Every week I help run the morning breakfast club for students that is provided by the school for students. My main focus as their teacher is to guide them in the right direction, providing suitable learning materials, guidance, motivation and ensuring the students that they have my full support – I believe it is important to create a safe and imaginative classroom experience to encourage a strong learning culture, accommodating students that have different learning needs.
NON TEACHING WORK EXPERIENCE
UCD Kids Sports Camp Coach: April 2017 – October 2018
Last Easter I joined the UCD kids coaching team to help run camps over particular school breaks. This job involved working with children from ages 4 – 15 and adapting to the sport necessary for a particular day. This ranged from hockey, basketball, swimming and tennis, however, I primarily coached hockey during my time there. Due to the difference in age groups it required me to adjust my techniques for each session to suit those involved. From this I became increasingly aware of the different needs of children, whilst building on being a team-player.
Loreto Secondary School Wexford – Leaving Certificate Superintendent: June 2017 and June 2018
Last June I undertook the role of an exam superintendent for the Leaving Certificate exams. I did this in a private centre for a student who suffered from severe anxiety and panic attacks. Because of her anxiety, it was important that I provided her with an atmosphere that was calm and approachable whilst adhering to the requirement of my role. In situations where she became anxious I tried to reassure her as much as possible, returning her to her exam once she felt ready. This June I will adopt a similar role as ‘reader’ for another Leaving Certificate student.
