Learning is a highly personal experience, and it occurs naturally and most effectively when information is presented in a way that is meaningful to the individual. Students need to know why it is important to master particular concepts and in what ways it will benefit them to acquire this knowledge. I therefore employ logic, analogy, heuristics, mnemonics, cultural references, current events, personal anecdotes--anything I can think of to put concepts in context and make them understandable and personally relevant to my students.
I am a retired court reporter with stellar grammar, writing, and communication skills. I believe that learning is a lifelong journey, and I returned to college at age 54 to complete my Bachelor's degree in English, with a minor in Creative Writing. I tutored most recently in my college writing center, assisting fellow students with their academic essays. I love reading, writing, and teaching, and I am currently working on my Master's degree in Teaching online.
