Tempe raised, but have lived in China, Mozambique, and Argentina. I have a BA and Masters in Education, but also a JD in law. 10+ years teaching experience (8+ years in law), most of it leading "great book" discussions in small groups. My area of focus is US Humanities and the intersections of literature, history, economics, and government theory. Am also on Tempe City Council, so these are topics with a special place in my heart.
Classes greater than 5 miles outside of Tempe will incur a travel fee. If teaching 2-3 students at time, there will be a per student discount. Students who do not do the assigned reading will be dropped.

Kolby was my history and literature teacher for 8th and 11th grade. He is skilled in boiling down complex themes to their simplest image. He is an author by heart, which allows him to see a text through multiple lenses. At the end of the day, Kolby just wants his students to understand the elements of a story that lie beneath the surface.
I had Mr. Granville for three years as a teacher in high school. He went out of his way to hear his students’ opinions to better himself as a teacher. I always had questions about the material so I would find him after school to ask him my trivial questions and sometimes I wanted to discuss a point further. I was pleasantly surprised with how he always gave me his full attention; it proved to me he cares about his students and their love of learning.
Mr. Granville taught my Humane Letters class in which students analyze and discuss Great Books and works of history. He is skilled at presenting topics in an interesting and engaging way, and always prompts students to dig deeper. His work as a lawyer and his trips to dozens of countries give him experience other instructors may not have. He truly cares about teaching his students how to think, and will go to great lengths to help them understand and succeed.
