As a greeting card publisher, artist and writer I will teach you the shortcuts to running a successful greeting card business. I will teach beginners interested in creating their own publishing business what it takes to run either a side-line business in addition to their normal 9-5, or what is needed to make it your full time vocation. No experience is necessary and I will take you through the basics of getting your designs to market, getting your cards barcoded, prepare you for trade fairs and show you how your design work can be applied to other products. No Adobe Creative Suite experience is necessary - just a willingness to create original concepts, designs or take great photographs and then produce them as print ready greeting cards. I will show you the benefits of delegating many tasks to a team of freelancers and alert you to some of the pitfalls to watch out for when dealing with new customers (at home or abroad), and receiving payment. I will provide you with supplier details (primarily UK but some US), and all the tips I have learned over 4 years in the business.
I meet all my students in a public place like a restaurant or cafe - I do not visit private homes.
Lorraine will take you step by step through the process needed to create, and operate your own greeting card publishing business from home. She loves to empower others by sharing information and will help you learn the ropes, and nuances of this exciting and sometimes challenging industry.
As a member of several art and professional bodies in the creative space, I exhibit at trade shows, and focus on developing my list of local and international stockists for my greeting cards, publish a greeting card centric e-zine - interviewing card publishers and artists from around the world, and provide them with free PR. I attend industry events in the UK, and Ireland. I have tutored rookie card publishers in a business incubator for six months, and shared my tips and tricks on how to succeed in the greeting card world. I suggest ways of protecting your profit margins, how to participate in industry awards, the importance of great customer service, and catalogue preparation.
