What is most important about working with students is to first get to know them as much as you can. Personal connections are important and understanding that everyone is different and works at their own pace.. My teaching methods definitely depend on the student and their pace.. I give them independent study time and have them come back to me after teaching them and making sure they understand a certain concept. My goal is to create a safe and judgement-free environment for your child and to help he/she expand their knowledge by allowing them to understand that all it takes is practice. I enjoy working with kids and want to take that strong passion of mine to create an impact in their lives. Which will expand my capability as a young tutor.
Hello! My name is Hasina Latifi. I am currently a 12th grader in high school and my favorite subject is English because I love to read and write. I am ASB Vice President of my school and have always been a people person. Growing up I found myself wanting to help people and it's always made me feel good to see a smile on peoples faces after I help them, even if it's the most random and simple task, I'll still do it because the feeling is something I could never get used to. Later in life I realized how beneficial this was towards my social life. This awesome skill of mine to talk to people and engage in certain conversations helped me make many close friends in life, who stay my close friends over the years. I grew up with my three sisters, one being older than me and the other two being younger. I've always been more than welcome to help with any problems they had regarding school work or anything else because making sure my sisters feel safe and comfortable is always a main priority of mine. I've tutored my little sisters and close relatives when it came to reading and quickly discovered that after recommending them to read more books and even the simple act of reading books aloud helped increase their capacity to excel in the English language. Looking back to my elementary school years, I was enrolled in an English Language Development academic and I remember being pulled out of class quite frequently and taken to a classroom with a small amount of students just to practice my reading and writing skills. It took me a long time to realize why I was in there and when I did, being the curious kid I was, I decided to expand my intellectual capability as a student by going to the library and just reading as many books as I could in one day. Then when I would see a word I didn't recognize, I immediately asked someone or looked to find it in the dictionary. After a lot of practice from reading/writing on my own I noticed the great affect this had on my school life because now I could read just as fast as the other kids. I want the kids I meet to understand that it's okay to not get something at first. Some things just take some extra practice. My service stands out because I remember being that kid and feeling hopeless at one point, I know how it feels to struggle. Seeing my friends and classmates not have to take the extra class I was put in, made me feel isolated from them, not only because I was put in the ELD program and they weren't but because there came a point where I felt different from everyone else since I lacked basic skills such as reading. Which is why tutoring young kids is important to me.
