In order to ensure that a student fully comprehends a problem, I make sure that instead of simply memorizing formulas and applying them, the student knows exactly why they work and can not only do the math, but explain the concepts behind it. In a typical lesson, we would start by either doing a few practice problems or homework questions to seek out some areas of improvement, and then we would work on making sure that the student fully understands the concepts by first asking them to explain how they think it works and what they are trying to do with the problem, and then working to make sure they can accurately grasp what the problem is and also how they can solve it.
I am taking math at higher level in the International Baccalaureate program. I also have teaching experience as the instructor of a Girls Who Code Club at my local library.
