I think students need to make connections from where they are to History. I like to teach the big picture first, and then show how that specific lesson connects to it. If you do it that way, History becomes a story—more interesting and easier to memorize. Students get to choose whatever method or art form that helps them learn—music, poems, plays, etc.
I have extensive experience teaching World and US History at the MS and HS level. I have personally visited many US & European historic sites. My goal is to make history interesting by helping students make connections between the past and present.
