I deeply value the mentor-mentee bond. Too often have I had teachers who I am afraid of or am intimidated by - meaning I wasn't able to express myself freely. Therefore, I strive to be a patient, kind teacher, who is willing to spend as much time as needed in order to help you succeed!
Furthermore, I strongly emphasize self-motivation, and the need for one to love learning. Throughout our lessons, I hope to allow both my mentee and I to grow as people as well as gain a deeper appreciation for the subject material and concepts.
Typically, I like to begin with a consultation/assessment, where I'll give a brief orientation (and get a feel for your goals and level.) I will then prepare a "training" plan designed specifically for you to help you succeed. I also like to give homework assignments (with time commitments based on the student's schedule) in between tutoring sessions so that you will be able to practice the concepts studied in class. Lessons are typically 45 to 90 minutes, with structure based completely on what you and I discuss! :)
With each topic, I usually allot 20 to 30 minutes at the beginning of a lesson to explain the topic in its entirety, answer questions, and more. Then, we can move into some example problems, where I can see how you think, and guide you based on that.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read about me, and I appreciate all your kindness!
Hi everyone! My name is Olivia, and I'm a rising freshman at Phillips Academy Andover, graduating in 2022. I'm a Caroline D. Bradley scholar (a recipient of a selective four-year high school merit scholarship), and I'm currently looking to help kids with their studies, as well as anybody who is beginning the high school application process.
I'm really passionate about giving back to the community, and I don't view anyone as a student - but more as a friend, and someone who has all the potential to achieve whatever he/she wants in life! Subjects I have taught/learned include math (up to Calculus ab), Honors English, Honors Biology, music theory and piano, cello and more. I have over 9 years of piano experience, and have won competitions/performed on the local, regional, national, and international level. I'm also the first chair of my city's youth orchestra. I've been a straight A student for the past three years. Furthermore, I love to compose, and am nationally recognized. One of my artwork has received a National Silver Medal in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.
My experience includes being a teaching assistant for a well-known university math professor, as well as volunteering as a peer mentor both in and outside of school. You can send me a message if you are interested in going on a learning journey with me, or if you have any questions about my teaching process, background in certain subjects, or if you would just like to chat. I'd love to help anyone who is in need of a mentor/friend. Much love, Olivia
I have a cancellation policy of 24 hours! I do like to prepare material for our lessons to achieve as much in the given time slot. However, this is a bit of a time commitment, so I would appreciate an early notice regarding lessons :)
