One phrase: “according to my students’ needs”. I tried as much as possible not to apply fixed formulas to everyone but focus on the different language requirements my students have, which makes a class always challenging for me. Having said that, as a speaker of different languages, I have to admit that a thorough understanding of grammar is indispensable to speeding the process of language learning. I also like my students to become gradually more and more independent from me, so I’ll be mainly facilitating the tools which will eventually make them autonomous learners.
What’s more, I would say that I have what some of my students have called a “reflective” style, which involves the use of lots of questions where we both think about ourselves and the reality surrounding us. I’ll be at times also contrasting cultures, but all this is in aid of widening mine and my students’ perspectives, which is, what I believe, one of the main goals of learning languages.
I am an ELT professional (English Language Teaching, certified on CPE & DELTA by Cambridge University) with more than 10 years’ experience teaching teenagers and adults. As I started travelling in my mid-twenties, I gradually passed the experience acquired in English to the teaching of my mother tongue, Spanish and even the teaching of some of the languages I also speak (French and German).
