I am a self taught professional, so I believe the best method of learning is hands on. Not just picking up a book, but actually getting your hands on systems and software to use. I like to show and have others follow along and do what it is I am doing.
My methodology is quite simple. Find applicable ways for students to understand what i am teaching. For example, something we all know and have had a hold on is receipts. So to explain a real world use of Microsoft Excel, i would create a little 4 item database and show exactly how the transaction is done from the time you scan an item is done to the point where the final total shows.
I first have to see the level of students, To teach software I start with the basics, and start a step by step teaching process I have taught English for many years. I also know computers and I have worked in US /Hong Kong / China teaching many people /students English and many other subjects. I also taught Sunday Schools from 7-12 grades and I work very well with young adults.
Learning programming languages requires primarily programming. Programming is a subset of problem solving. Programming requires knowledge of the programming language, logic, math (often), and creative problem solving. Concepts are explained clearly if there is a need. Otherwise, practice is the focus. Active learning is best in any subject.
My teaching methods are based on own training that I undertook in the train-the-trainer coursework. I provide training to all students, individuals, groups, beginners, intermediate and experienced computer users. I believe that there is "no question that is a stupid question". Train the student to be a trainer in turn.
My previous students come from a variety of groups including elementary to high school students, college students, graduate students, adults, etc.., The majority of my lessons was conducted online. Sometimes, I do tutor in person if the travel radius allowed me to go. In my opinion, when it comes to studying or learning something, understanding is extremely important.
Every person is different with how they approach material, so I try to find the best way for the information to stick. I find the best thing is to find the most direct method that yields results, or patterns in the material that will allow the student to quickly come to an understanding.
Since I want you all to understand the most basic concept of programming and gradually develop to the advanced topics, I will be teaching you all from the beginning and repeating the similar topic until you understand fully then only move to next topic.

The first thing I ask is what the student wants to learn and give them increasingly difficult problems to work until we find their level. Then I search for the specific problem they are having and clarify key concepts to see that the student has a thorough understand of all the concepts involved. I find that the student is usually missing a concept which causes all the frustration.
Each session needs to be customized to the individual. Everyone comes in with a different level of experience and it's important that you review this, and come up with a learning plan that is tailored to give optimal information to your students.
