For general English and Writing, I use a mix of two approaches when teaching: expressivism and constructivism. I use the expressivist approach to relate writing exercises and outside materials directly to the students’ lives. I then wade into the social constructivist approach.
My name is Leanne and I give English lessons to all students who are struggling or need assistance in writing. I'm a college student who is studying early childhood education with a minor in English. My technique and methods consist of repetitive free write and practice. I will help you better your sentence structure and word choice in the most efficient way.
I want to be able to personalize lessons to the students individual needs and interests. It is important that they are receiving valuable information they can build on for their style of writing.

I show students how to take a closer look into texts to develop strong thesis statements and analyze context to get a grip on the greater meaning of a story. I also help students put their ideas into words through working and reworking sentences until they make sense and express the ideas in their head through language and writing styles.

I graduated high school in June of 2015 and have been attending an online program at Grand Canyon University since October 2015. My major is secondary education with an emphasis on English, of course. I teach in a positive manner; as in, I never negatively ridicule a student for getting a question wrong. People learn and memorize things best when they are associated with positive things.
First, I define a goal with the student and then reduce this goal into smaller, more approachable obstacles. We then traverse this landscape together until we arrive at a finished project and a better understanding of the process. I help equip my students with the skills needed to move forward in academics and the workplace.
As a college student, I would be most comfortable giving lessons to those my age or younger. I am willing to give lessons surrounding reading, writing, or both. I am happy to give feedback regarding school assignments. Once receiving details about what students would like to work on, I will then put together a lesson plan for each individual student.
Yale University graduate working with high school students to improve their essays, college apps, or creative writing: lessons focus on close reading, sentence structure, brainstorming. All about positivity! There are no wrong essays but some versions are better than others. We will focus on what works.
My teaching method consists of using the raw material of my students and building upon it. I ask guided questions so that their work is their own and they feel fulfilled at the end. I cater my teaching method toward individual student needs and always use positive reinforcement to inspire my students to enjoy learning.
I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in English Language Arts from The New School University this past summer and have done some freelance tutoring and essay editing for fellow students throughout my college career. I am a thoroughly detail-oriented editor who strives to help my students express their ideas with precision and style.
My teaching philosophy is that every student learns differently and has different needs. This is why I don't believe in a one size fits all teaching method. I asses each student and create a lesson plan based on their needs and the subject matter being taught. I have found from my years of teaching that this methodology is what works best.
I have a BA in English from the City College of New York; an MFA in theatre from Yale University. My background reflects both my passions and my career choices: after several years in theatre as an actor and singer, I went on to a career in journalism in tandem with teaching English at the college level. These days, I do private tutoring and continue my life-long habit of reading voraciously.
