I have just finished my A Levels and am looking to tutor GCSE level and below. To achieve top grades in languages, last minute revision is not effective, and so I would work with my student to build up a strong vocabulary bank, and then proceed to look at exam style questions. These include listening exercises and practising extended pieces of writing.

My teaching style is to ask students questions to see if they know the answers. I then give them strategies to try to work out the answers and guide them to think for themselves to become independent learners. With the introduction of the the new GCSE, being able to think for yourself and develop critical thinking skills early is a real advance.

In my lessons, speaking is the most important part. I correct mistakes and explain the grammar rules if necessary. I am convinced that learning should be fun. That's why I teach German via the so-called Birkenbihl-approach. I let you decide what and how you want to learn. Specifically, you choose the topic and the material (song lyrics, books, movies... anything you LIKE). I don't use textbooks because they do not, for the most part, contain topics that are of interest to ALL learners - only to some.
I would love to tutor German students of all levels. My main focus in lessons is on speaking, as this is the most effective way to learn the language (and also the most fun!). However, I am of course always open to adapt to the individual needs of the student.
