I always begin by figuring out what the student knows conceptually, without considering numerical answers at all. This can be done through questions or just diagrams (I will pretty much draw a diagram for every question).

I have wide exposure to the case method, since that was the teaching methodology used at the school that I went to. In case you are unfamiliar with it -- it consists basically, as its name suggest, of a business case and a tech note. The tech note lays the groundwork and walks through the technical aspects of a certain business concept that is covered in the case (e.g. cost of capital calculation).

Personally, I cannot keep on studying without understanding the logic of the topic. So I cannot pass to another lesson if I don't understand the reasoning .
