BA in Elementary Education, MA in Theatre Education. Experienced in primary grades in reading, writing and math. One on one helps bring the reading level to grade and more. I use the three modalities of learning: visual, aural, and kinsthetic.
I teach SAT and ACT prep in classes and 1-to-1. I hsve uniques strategies that employ such that the students can see the recurring patterns in the SAT and ACT question snd answer them with comfort and ease. I work hard to make sure my students have the confidence to tackle the SAT and ACT by working with them initially and then gradually leaving them to show me what they can do independently.
I know that all children can learn. A diagnostic test should be given to the child and appropriate data must be gathered after this initial assessment. The results of this data drives the instruction while on-going progress monitoring provides additional data for remediation. Remediation is given until the child has successfully mastered the skill based on the final assessment.
My teaching methodology depends on your needs and wants, but if I will be tutoring you in reading and/or writing, I would first assess your knowledge and skills by asking you to do some sample writing.
I am friendly, passionate about books, and want to assist anyone who wants to build on their English skills. I like to start from what they know and build from there on. I do not want to bore them so I concentrate on what they want to learn. I am open for ideas and willing to learn right along side of them if I must.
I have received a graduate diploma of National Oil Academy. Also, have numerous certificates of practical seminars, training courses which helped me to improve my professional skills. During my work, I use different methods and techniques for better understanding and high results of my students.

I tutor students from middle school to high school in ACT English and Reading, and I use ACT prep textbooks that I provide.
I received my NYS High School Regents Diploma in 2011. I am currently in the process of receiving my B.S. from CUNY City College of New York in Biomedical Engineering. I tailor every session to the needs of my student. I guide my students in prioritizing by asking what they need to get done before our next session and then we work from there.
Students requesting tutoring in reading start with phonics, letter sounds, letter blends, word attack, reading fluency and move to comprehension smoothly. Lots of practice and positive feedback helps build confidence. The same is true for writing and speaking. Clear thinking and practice with postive feedback works well in all cases.
My teaching method for SAT prep is a lot of targeted practice with real exam questions. There is a pattern and once students can discern the patterns, they are a lot more successful. I also believe in using test-taking strategies in order to eliminate and critically think of alternate ways to solve problems.
I love the process of teaching and learning. It is a two-way street. The student and the teacher are both learning and teaching at the same time. I do not have a specific method of teaching. I will assess your child and then decide the best methodology for him/her because every person is different and therefore they learn at different speeds with different approaches.
My method is to assess where you are and learn about your goals, and then devise a fun and effective program to help you reach those goals as quickly as possible. I use a combination of resources, mixing verbal/ auditory inputs with visual instruction in order to maximize comprehension and retention by making duel neural pathways in the brain.

My name is Suzanne Smalling. I am 31 years old and I have been teaching elementary school for a total of 10 years. I earned my masters degree in 2008 from Albany State University in Early Childhood Education. Two years later I achieved the highly esteemed "Teacher of The Year" award. I have extensive experience working with students from a variety of backgrounds.
I am a Intervention Specialist who has achieved the Highly Qualified Teaching status and hold a 5 Year Professional License (k-12), Mild/Moderate with the Teacher as Leader endorsement with the State of Ohio Department of Education. I tutor students in K - 5th grades assisting them to develop reading, writing, and study skills.
My teaching methodology is allowing the students to be as hands-on as possible. From my experience, students do better when they can be the tutor's equal and engage and ask as many questions as possible. I will create curriculums that will challenge the student's way of thinking while they are still able to learn the basics.
I believe that an equitable classroom climate is an environment in which everyone has what they need to achieve a similar goal. I understand that we all learn at different paces and in different manners. The key to success in the classroom, is figuring out how an individual learns and providing them with the best fuel for their personalized learning experience within your classroom.
I like to approach each session according to the student I am helping. It's important to understand each individual student's "learning language" before I even consider the material we will cover. I always strive to customize each session to tailor fit those I am teaching.
I approach each topic with the intent to make learning exciting and fun. Keeping each student attention can difficult at times, especially after being in school all day and then has to attend a tutorial session with me. I make a game out of it with incentive prices after a couple of weeks of successful sessions with me.
I care for my students' frustrations, I listen, and create the best possible course of academic progress after getting to know them, so that I can relate to their mode, and see what is going on with my students' objectively, and then finally I eliminate all negative factors/and or other influences or factors which may hinder their progress and successful education completely.
I love to use hands-on strategies as well as connect everything with critical thinking - allowing students to apply their knowledge to their lives and thus becoming more productive citizens. I believe the positive reinforcement and scaffolding are key to making sure students learn at a good pace while retaining all necessary information.
My teaching philosophy is that every student learns differently and has different needs. This is why I don't believe in a one size fits all teaching method. I asses each student and create a lesson plan based on their needs and the subject matter being taught. I have found from my years of teaching that this methodology is what works best.
My teaching method is to make sure the student's needs are being met. Before I begin working with a student, my desire is to understand what needs they have first to prevent from waisting time. After that is established and I know what is needed, my goal is to provide a structured but fun, successful learning environment.
I teach English composition from a writing about writing model. I teach my students how to identify and study genre conventions so they gain transferrable skills for future writing projects. I provide one on one conferencing with each student on all of their major projects.
I have an MFA in poetry, a BFA in English, and a CELTA certificate, along with teaching endorsements in English, ESL, and GT (gifted and talented). I taught English Literature and Language to 7,8, and 9th graders for 10 years, ESL for several years, including several years of work with international students.
I will help teach them independent study skills that will last them throughout their education and beyond. Lesson structure will be based on the skill level of the student, what their teacher or professor requires, and any other aspects that the student (or parent) wants to improve such as reading comprehension and essay writing.
There is no one method. It depends on the age and maturity of the students. It also depends on their skill level and motivation. While it is sometimes helpful to make it as fun and engaging as possible, that would be inappropriate at other times, such as when teaching essay writing.
I am a sophomore English major and Honors student with experience as an assistant editor on my college literary journal. Over the summer, I co-taught a creative writing class for elementary and middle school students where I worked to provide the tools for learning, as well as structure and guidance.
