Hey there! My name is Steve and I am the Lead Guitarist for rock band Lifehouse, 50% of the creative force behind the band Lost Beach and a freelance Producer/Mixer/Mastering Engineer.
I am a third year Music Composition student at UCLA able to give lessons in singing, drums and percussion, and music theory to any level of student from kids to adults. I am attentive and listen to the students wants and abilities in order to get the best out of the lesson times because I know what it is like to not get what you want out of a lesson that you pay good money for.
My teaching method is tailored to each student as everyone has their own unique style. My job is to help you find it and bring it out of you! We practice scales and then discover and hone your own vocal texture using some of your favorite songs.
I teach according to need and desire. I immediately find your vocal challenges and start unraveling bad habits and creating new ones. I have a wide range of tools ranging from classical training to SLS, which is used by all the pop stars. It's an individual and unique process and everyone is different.
I have developed my own vocal technique method that shows results even after the first week of training! Besides English, I am fluent in Spanish and Portuguese. I work as a songwriter for Hollywood film and tv series productions. My expertise is teaching contemporary singing.
My teaching methodology varies depending on the student. One thing that has always irritated me about a traditional method or approach is that they are too linear; in other words, they lack variety and continuity with respect to the student. If every musician were the same, I would gladly teach method books...
I approach each topic individually based on the student's experience and learning style. I've had some students get things quicker than others which is why I prefer to avoid group settings. I also prefer to work towards students interests. There's always a way to find rudimentary materials in things that are interesting as opposed to running boring drills.
Singing is not about your voice , it is understanding the anatomy of your body that allows you to sing free enough to find your own unique sound. Repetition means nothing if the sound is not genuine to the performer.
I make an effort to gear my method of teaching to the students I have in classes, mostly utilizing visual and aural skills.
I understand that music is an intimidating subject, and I want every student to know that they have the ability to become professional musicians if they so choose. Because of my background in voice, piano, and music theory, our teaching plan will depend on your interests, goals, and learning-style.
My teaching method is very simple. I like to hear what they bring to the table.
Developed and presented stimulating lesson plans that covers a wide range of topics and foster music appreciation. Instructed students in the technical aspects of music; conducted rehearsals; put on shows and play at assemblies. Evaluated students’ progress; offered one-on-one or after-school help to ensure each student is able to understand the materials and develop his/her skills.
Voice and Music Education major under the tutelage of Lyric/Heroic Tenor Timothy Mussard, PhD, Maestro Donald Neuen, PhD and Dorothy Warenksjold, PhD at UCLA. Graduated with a BA in Music and has performed and taught musically for over 15 years ages 2-80, all levels and classes of 2-200.
My teaching method is personalized for each student.
I offer in person private sessions at my studio in the North Hollywood Studio City area of Los Angeles and online sessions in the comfort of your own home. I work to create a supportive and comfortable environment so that you are assured to receive the greatest benefit and success. The voice is our most personal form of expression and everyone has some degree of judgment of their own voice.
I base my classes on a few key things: warm-ups, technique-focused repertoire, and music theory.
I guess my first teacher rubbed off on me in that when I would pick up on something he'd teach me, he'd roar with laughter and would get so excited for me! That is how I am: I love to see my students figure out concepts and put them into practice, I get very enthusiastic! Every small victory must be acknowledged because the road is long and difficult, and each small victory leads to a new...
Berklee College of Music 1999-2003 Voice Principal Music Business Management Major Private Studio owner for 14 years, specializing in contemporary vocal styles (Pop, Country, RnB, Gospel). Method creator and expert in conveying difficult technique, especially to young singers, with an enthusiastic, solid and proven successful approach to coaching.
I usually start the lesson with warm up exercises, then I do with the student rhythm exercises, hearing exercises, then is work on the songs that the student has to prepare for the recital, then I give technique exercises for home work.
I like to base my classes on what my students want to learn. I like to start your first lesson by listening to you sing and seeing what I think you can benefit from working on, and then also going over your own musical goals and dreams. Then I go over what you hope to gain from these lessons.
I give voice lessons to beginner and intermediate level students. If you're just starting and you feel like you don't know anything about music at all...
Feel free to contact if you are looking to learn the basics of music theory and musicality, taught on piano, voice, or guitar. This course is for those looking to learn the fundamentals of musical practice, with the goal of playing songs you are interested in as soon as possible.
As a singing teacher - my methods steam largely from what was taught in the SLS organization and IVA, because that is where i learned. Rather than trying to explain things as they should be done, we use excercises to put things into practice immediately and THEN explain what is happening in your body. You do it first - and then put it to words yourself.
