Hello! I’m Ali. I graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a concentration in Statistics and Data Analysis. The classes I most appreciated in college were classes where not only the topic interested me, but also classes where the professors made the classes enjoyable.
I implement an eclectic approach that caters to the needs of the student. I incorporate reading, writing, listening, and speaking activities in my lesson plans. I want students to feel comfortable and to ask questions. I strive to provide an engaging environment.
The best way to learn a language is through immersion and practice. Learning a new language is not easy nor is there a short cut to doing so. I myself went from knowing Spanish to being considered by native speakers to speak the language fluently. I teach from my own experiences in dominating the language.
I like to start from the bottom up. Understanding what words mean is important before you start to do sentence structures. I like to use audio, visual and verbal examples so students will have a higher likelihood of retaining the new information.
I believe that the best way to learn a language is to "jump" into the culture. When I teach, first I show what the culture is and expose my student to the words and most common frases that he/she will encounter in the real world. Then I teach the grammar and syntax of the languages. My goal is to teach how the people speak and communicate in the real world, then we work with what the books say.
I vary my teaching style based on the needs and goals of the student. I believe immersion in the language, regardless of context, is helpful in the learning process. This means that I use Spanish as much as possible to explain other parts of the language, but I am open to using English when the student feels a greater struggle with the language.
I ensure that each of my students understands what is required. My students learn to better educate themselves and others with my assistance. PowerPoints and quizlit are key tools for studying and practicing everyday is very important to ensure success.
My teaching methods are going to be very straightforward and hands-on. As we progress I will speak Spanish to you the majority of the time so that you're able to grasp the language easily. Repetition and practice is key to learning any language.
