I like to help students to feel comfortable in their learning environment by inviting them to participate in relatable discussion topics and collaborate with their peers. I also believe in using hands-on materials to contextualize the abstract nature of language.
Depending on the skill level, my lessons typically include role-playing scenarios that reflect real world interactions, analyzing story elements, deconstructing the language of math word problems, and adding and revising details in non-fiction writing. Whether the lesson calls for bodily-kinesthetic approaches that associate new vocabulary with corresponding movements, or applying new writing skills as students complete long-term projects, I encourage my students to make use of their strengths to gain access to newer forms of English language expression and comprehension.
Because I am a classroom teacher during the year, my schedule is more flexible during the summer. My summer hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. During the school year, my hours are Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
I have three years of general content tutoring experience and one year of ESL teaching experience. I have worked with students who are new to learning the English language along with intermediate students who learn English through core subject areas.
If a student and/or their parents/guardians cancel an appointment within 48 hours of the scheduled date, they will not be charged a cancellation fee. Any cancellations made within 24 hours of the appointment, however, will result in a $15 (US) cancellation fee. If you had purchased your hours in advance, the 24-hour cancellation fee will be $10 (US) instead.
