I can give lessons on general science, including earth science, chemistry, or mathematics, to students up to their senior year in high school. My specialty is in small groups, but I have a strong record of working one-on-one with students. I am a strong believer in understanding scientific methodology, so my skill set is particularly important for students who feel that they do not "get" or "like" science. I can bring the joy of science to them.
I have been teaching as a tutor since high school, as a volunteer peer tutor in math and science classes all four years. I was in a more competitive college environment, but since graduation from Bowdoin I have been much more committed to a professional development of my teaching abilities. I have taught classes on Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Ecology, and Scientific Methods. My current student body is somewhere around 80 students, many of whom enjoyed working with me to understand and engage with scientific content. Students who have worked with me have reported that they were able to find science more interesting, and have appreciated the time I put into helping them.
