I am a positive, encouraging, yet diligent tutor; I am very good at understanding the student's perspective while guiding them in the directions they need in order to develop as a musician. I give lessons in piano, guitar (acoustic and electric), or theory to teens and adults. Lessons involve understanding and cultivating technique, cultivating tone and style, furthering memorization skills, understanding why something sounds good through theory (both for theory classes and supplementally for guitar/piano classes, enough to aide practical development), and more.
I am a multi-instrumentalist, having played piano (classical and pop/rock/blues etc) for 25 years, guitar and vocals for 17 years, and various other instruments including mandolin, banjo, blues and folk harmonica, bass guitar, 12-string guitar for over 10 years. I studied music and theory since age 5 all the way through the university level. I have taught professionally for two and a half years. I love seeing students flourish and think in new ways.
If lesson is cancelled within 24 hours of scheduled time, $25 is owed.

I wrote creative and attention grabbing copy at a very fast pace. My earlier position performing data entry as a linguistic analyst required the ability to understand and prioritize task and issues quickly and efficiently, native language skills and cultural awareness of native country, good oral and written communication. I also had to be highly organized with attention to detail and a commitment to quality. I wrote and reported relevant bugs and errors using best practices through Apple's internal database system. Dorothea is an exceptional teacher. She taught me piano and guitar and is patient, encouraging, and diligent. She is very versed in theory as well, which helped me gain the ability to compose my own originals. I progressed very quickly with her. Best music teacher I’ve had!
I met Dorothea at an open mic night where she absolutely killed, found out she gave lessons and asked if she would teach me to play guitar. I've had other teachers in the past and nothing ever stuck, but she is very attentive, patient, and gives very clear instruction with easy to understand corrections.
