Catering to the student's own creativity, musical style, learning style, and desire for growth is where I begin my ideology for teaching. As a basis however, Theory is essential in all sectors of my lessons whether learning how to follow past ideologies or learning how to create a framework to create their own, or even learning how and when to break the rules for creative processes.
I am a classically trained pianist with 12 years of choir and music theory experience. I have worked with digital music synthesis and recording software for 6 years, directed choir and instrumental concerts, released music albums, taught piano and composition students, and taken classes over cinematic scoring from top-class orchestrators and composers.

I performed in a concert with Drew featuring his original music. His ability to craft music that is both theoretically sound as well as aesthetically satisfying shows his skill in connecting craft with art. In rehearsals, his awareness of how the different pieces of the music fit together and his ability to use that to teach the parts showed his awareness of what it takes to translate what is in his brain in a way that passes on what he has to teach. His thoughtful playing during the concert, both in the solo playing and in the accompanying, demonstrated both a good grasp of the piano as well as how to use that knowledge to appropriately interpret playing styles in various roles. Take your lessons from Drew!
Drew has studied piano since he was 10, is hardworking, patient, and a very talented songwriter. He has written music since he was 11.
