I use an established program of everyday topics to assist in natural, free-flowing conversation. I offer constructive feedback and assistance contextualizing subjects and expressions in American English that may be unfamiliar to foreigners. I will also use videos and print sources to aid in instruction.
I have studied three foreign language abroad in three different countries. I understand how frustrating it is to not be able to express yourself in a second language. I have informally tutored over two dozen students of English, in person and online, helping them to improve their fluency, grammar, pronunciation, comprehension, and vocabulary. I am able to teach common idiomatic expressions and everyday sayings, including ways to make your speech sound more natural and everyday. I want to help you make the most of your tutoring time, and to take your English to the next level.
I have a master's degree in Library Science and I am able to locate language aid instruction resources to assist you in your English learning needs. For example, I can locate resources for specialized vocabulary for particular industries.
I am an advanced speaker of Brazilian Portuguese. I have previous experience assisting Brazilians who wish to improve their conversation skill and pronunciation.

Perfect! I am French and I moved to NYC at the beginning of October 2018. I have been taking one-on-one English lessons with Emily since my arrival. She is an amazing person and teacher: patient, extremely helpful and encouraging.
She is great at transferring knowledge, and I can tell that there is a serious effort and thought to prepare her own tools and tutoring. I have had a tremendous experience with Emily, she teaches me modern English and she is really involved with my progress. Now, I have reached a conversational level.
It's a real blessing for me to have met Emily!
It was a pleasure to work with Mélodie. We met for several months for regular, one-on-one English conversation lessons. She was a terrific student, motivated, and well perpared. She made excellent progress with her English conversation, and has become a capable and confident English speaker. In addition, Mélodie is very personable, gracious, and kind. She was open to different methods and approaches in language instruction, and she shared a lot of cool things with me about French culture, including an authentic French dessert! I tailored many of our lessons according to her interests and preferences. She was flexible about our meeting dates and always so friendly and welcoming. Mélodie was a wonderful student!
