Composed geotechnical project scopes of work, budgets and invoices. Reviewed and approved multiple types of technical reports and deliverables. Interfaced with multiple project subcontractors and owners of contaminated properties. Served as an office Information Technology Liason.

Postdoctoral Research Associate
Oak Ridge National Laboratory
MERCURY REMEDIATION RESEARCH: High-resolution characterization of sediments from a contaminated creek for geochemically-relevant mercury. Evaluated chemical adsorbent materials for mercury reactivity with the goal of selecting the most effective materials for remediation. Designed and conducted adsorbent experiments, including kinetic, isotherm and three-phase sediment/adsorbent/natural water or analog experiments. Operated, maintained and troubleshot mercury analytical instrumentation, including Ohio Lumex RA-915+ Zeeman effect atomic absorption spectrometer and rehabilitation of Tekran 2600 Dual Gold Trap Cold Vapor- Atomic Fluorescence analyzer (EPA Method 1631). Collaborated with project investigators and staff to report findings in scientific and technical papers. Sampled surface waters for laboratory analysis. Trained Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education student interns on laboratory safety, experimental operations and proper waste disposal techniques.

Graduate Teaching Assistant
Florida State University
National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (Concurrent with Graduate Teaching Assistant Position) MERCURY ISOTOPIC AND SPECIATION ANALYSIS OF GULF OF MEXICO FISH AND INVERTEBRATES: Designed and developed methods for, and conducted experiments on multiple Gulf of Mexico species, especially gag grouper and red snapper pre-and post-Deepwater Horizon oil spill event using Cold Vapor Generator-coupled Thermo Neptune Multicollector Inductively-Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer and custom-designed Tekran 2700 Gas Chromatograph-Atomic Fluorescence mercury speciation analyzer (EPA Method 1630). Conducted design, method development and analysis of novel KMnO4-trapping of organic and inorganic mercury species. Interpreted isotopic and speciation data. Practiced trace level geochemical clean laboratory techniques and maintenance. Conducted field work, harvested and prepared samples for analysis using freeze-drying and corrosive acid techniques.

MULTIELEMENTAL TRACE ANALYSIS OF GULF OF MEXICO GAG GROUPER MUSCLE AND LIVER TISSUES: Ultra-trace level metals and mineral analysis of gag grouper tissues using Thermo Element 2 ICP-MS in multiple resolution modes. Performed standard addition techniques for determination of concentration of trace and rare Earth elements in novel fish sample matrix. Prepared samples with trace level geochemical clean laboratory techniques. ULTRA-HIGH RESOLUTION MASS SPECTROSCOPIC ANALYSIS OF CRUDE OIL INTERFACIAL MATERIAL: Refined method for isolation of crude oil-water interfacial layer. Trained postdoctoral researchers on execution of method. Analyzed isolated interfacial layers from respective crude oils with 14 Tesla Electrospray Ionization Fourier Transform-Ion Cyclotron Resonance Mass Spectrometer. PRESENTER: Performed talks on pre-Deepwater Horizon control area fish and invertebrate species mercury and nitrogen isotope findings, including novel individual fish muscle and liver mercury isotopic research, at International Conference on Global Mercury Pollution. Presented talks and posters at BP-funded Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative Deep-C Consortium conferences. COLLABORATOR: Organized and coordinated interdepartmental mercury marine ecology working group within Deep-C Consortium. Collaborated with researchers from external universities, marine biology laboratories and research consortia, especially regarding mercury work and acquisition of appropriate samples. Collaborated with postdoctoral researchers and interdepartmental graduate students on experimental design, planning, execution, laboratory techniques and interpretation of data.

TEACHING ASSISTANT, DEPARTMENT OF EARTH, OCEAN AND ATMOSPHERIC SCIENCE: Planned lessons for and instructed Earth science laboratories of Dynamic Earth (Geology 1000) and Mineralogy and Crystallography, and Senior Environmental Capstone seminar/field courses. Instructed and assisted students in field work, sample collection, sample identification, physical and chemical analyses and interpretation of data for Dynamic Earth and Senior Environmental Capstone courses.

TEACHING ASSISTANT, DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY AND BIOCHEMISTRY: Assessed course materials for applicability to students, lecture on theory and application, including pedagogical and practical subjects such as instrumental theory, laboratory safety and chemical disposal. Served as laboratory instructor for Liberal Studies Chemistry, General Chemistry I and Analytical Chemistry courses. Served as recitation instructor for General Chemistry II course.
