I am a recent PhD graduate in Chemistry with 5 years of teaching and tutoring experience. I have tutored and taught students from the high school level through the university level. I fully believe that one on one instruction is a vital component to a student's learning process, and only that level of attention can foster the skills that are needed to succeed. I tailor my lessons to each individual student, trying to relate the course material to real-world scenarios to both foster an interest and forge a connection that can bring about a deeper understanding of the concepts.
Teaching and Tutoring Experience: 5 years
Average Number of Students per Academic Year: 3-4
In one particular case, a student achieved a letter grade improvement from a D to a B+ in only 3 months of lessons, averaging about two sessions per week. I have also successfully prepared high-school students for AP exams.
At the college level, students often contact me after struggling on a first exam, and I have helped C-students become A-students over the course of a semester.
My standard rate is $100 per hour of individualized instruction, but I am willing to work with clients to find a system that works for them. If I am required to travel more than 15 miles to meet with a student, the rate may have to be adjusted depending on the situation.
My teaching experience ranges from classroom and laboratory instruction to individualized tutoring as well as comprehensive exam preparation review sessions. I have 5 years of teaching and tutoring experience at the university level. I also conducted independent research projects as a graduate research assistant while teaching, culminating in a PhD dissertation that involved the use of many of the techniques and concepts that I teach in my classes.
