Physics grad, tutored since high school in San Juan in English and Spanish

Methodology

The way I teach is largely based on practice and derivation. I think it is infintely easier to understand a mathematical/physical technique when you know where it comes from. My classes revolve around starting with first principle and step by step showing the student how we arrive at the formulas. Then after they understand how the formula appeared and what each variable represents I show them problems with step by step solutions. I sometimes also write up original written explanations. When teaching physics I will often also do practical examples like throwing my keys (projectile motion), doing a pushup (Newton's third law), or slamming myself against a brick wall (collision).

Background

I have been tutoring since high school with the National Honor Society and after getting my degree my knowledge of math has gotten wider. Over the last ten years tutoring in my life has been nearly constant and by now the number of students I have had with good results has reached the hundreds. I love hearing students' "Aha!" whenever they grasp a subject which is quite common when it comes to math (it is especially awesome when teaching logarithms).
