I'm Mike Ellis. I teach all levels. Note reading is not required. BEGINNERS: After getting to know the student some, I get into the parts of the guitar and how strings make different notes in different frets. He shows them the way to hold the guitar and how to press strings against the fretboard. When they get comfortable with those things, he shows them two very easy chords that they will use in their first song. We start with easy chord songs and not by playing individual notes from the staff line. Reading notes can come later.
You'll learn coordination, timing, ear training, music theory, rhythm and lead guitar, and all styles of music. And you can bring the me songs you want to learn.
There are eight short basic songs, each increasing the dexterity and ability of the students. After that, they bring songs they like and I chooses which ones are best for them at their level. There are no recitals where students play in front of strangers.

I have over 30 years experience teaching and performing. I was taught HOW TO TEACH by a teacher with over 30 years teaching experience. He gave me two hour-long lessons per week for over ten years. I had already been playing and performing for eleven years when I met him. He took me from Rock N Roll through ALL styles of music. I also completed Modern Method for Guitar Books I, II, III from Berklee College, in Boston. He taught me music theory in a way that was super easy to understand, and I pass that along to all my students.
Lessons are 1/2 hour each, once each week at a specified time. Students pay for all lessons (except those missed by the instructor) whether they attend or not. If a student cancels at least 2 hours before time, a makeup lesson will be offered.
The lessons are $30 each, paid monthly on or near the 1st of each month. Cash or checks only, please.
