My teaching method is heavily based around teaching music as one would teach a language. I incorporate a lot of music theory in my teachings, so that the student can apply their knowledge to any instrument, just in case they'd like to learn a new one in the future. I enjoy getting to know my students and asking them questions about what helps them learn the best so I can create specific lesson plans that will benefit them the most. I also like to know what motivates them to play, and what songs they're passionate about. I will teach any genre or song that the student is interested in. Music has been the most important thing in my life, so it makes me incredibly happy to pass my knowledge onto my students and help them learn to atristically express themselves through playing.
My name is Carly Cascio. I've been teaching private violin lessons since January 2017. Since then I've taught a diverse array of students, ranging from ages 4 to 73. I grew up classically trained, but after my freshman year of college I started to branch out towards other genres and forms of music. In addition to violin, I can also play viola, piano, guitar, and ukulele. I write my own songs using Logic Pro X and sing the lyrics for them myself. I am currently a violinist in a band called the DMV Hip Hop Orchestra. We've played at a large variety of venues, including the Kennedy Center and the National Aboretum. I believe that my wide range of experiences really benefit myself as a teacher.
30 minutes: $40
45 minutes: $50
60 minutes: $60
*** please note that these are my rates for students that I travel to. If you come to me, or if we have lessons via webcam, all rates are discounted by $10.
Lessons that are longer than 60 minutes:
I generally do not recommend going over an hour, solely because you will be learning a lot of information within the given time and I want you to be able to remember and process everything. Everyone has different attention spans, but I've noticed that many people get tired out around an hour. If you really want to do longer than an hour, however, I can do 90 minutes for $90.
I graduated from the University of Maryland in 2018 with a dual degree in environmental science and sociology. Many people are surprised that I did not major in music. At the time, I didn't want to turn music into work and ruin it for myself. However, when I started teaching in 2017 I realized that teaching others is so important to me that turning music into work was no longer an issue. Today I am composing and producing my own music with the goal of releasing an album (I'm a bit of a perfectionist though, so it will probably take awhile!) I get paid for gigs and for creating projects like a theme song for a podcast. I'm not entirely sure what I want to do for the rest of my life, but I do know that I enjoy helping others and believe that giving violin lessons is the best job I've ever had.
