While there are several drumming method books that I recommend, every student is different, so I typically tailor lessons to the needs/wants of each student. Regardless of direction, we'll work on developing and maintaining good hand technique, meter, groove, and above all, musicianship.
Some teachers are stern taskmasters... That's not my personality. I'm very patient, and prefer to keep lessons light and fun while imparting the knowledge I've gained from over 30 years of playing music. My goal is pretty simple: to help my students attain a level of proficiency that allows them to experience the joy of drumming, and hopefully to play music with other musicians.
I'm a professional drummer and teacher working from my humble home studio in Phoenix. I'm a graduate of the Grove School of Music (L.A., CA), where I studied with David Garibaldi, Peter Donald, Luis Conte, Dan Greco, Dave Crigger, and many other excellent drummers, percussionist and musicians. I've played in bands covering a wide variety of music over the last 30 years, for crowds of 20 people to 20,000 people.
My current roster of students range in age from 5 years old to 60 years old. I believe everyone can enjoy learning to play music, regardless of age. Drums are fun!
