My tutoring approach is a guiding hand. I have learned from my tutoring experience that the student doesn't learn the material from being given the answer but can learn and understand the material better when talked through the steps of obtaining the answer, and if possible shown multiple ways to get said answer. This is easily applicable to math, but changing the way something is explained if it isn't understood the first time helps with learning any subject.
I am a Biological Physics graduate of the University of San Diego. I enjoyed my major and how rigorous it was and made Dean's list twice for semester GPA. Last year I was the lead math and science tutor for Tutoring Club in Newport Beach while interning for Prodo Labs. I recently moved to the Bay Area to pursue research. I enjoy learning in all forms and, on occasion, have reread through textbooks that had required reading to see if there is any interesting information I missed when concentrating on learning what the teacher intended.
Due to the breadth and detail of math and science, as students progress through school, my rates vary from $30 for elementary and middle school students- $40 for high school and undergraduate.

Measured Torque Produced by E. coli Flagella:
Built an optical trap, with a team, from a collection of lenses and mirrors. Assured light collimation with the integration of each optical element. Every aspect of the trap was calibrated, then used to effectively measure the trapping force applied to stall an E. coli sample. We found the torque to be 2200 pN nm; supportive of other research findings.
Analyzed Crowding in Different Concentrations of Biopolymers:
Used Laser Scanning and Wide Field fluorescent microscopy to view, image, and measure DNA, actin, and dextran (10-500 kDa) with different fluorescent labels and concentrations. Using a combination of the images from each instrument, we calculated the diffusion rate, the radius of gyration, and persistence length of these biomolecules. Utilized Matlab for particle tracking used to calculate diffusion in different viscosities.
Engineered a 3D Optics Probe to Measure Illumination of a Curing Chamber:
Built a three-dimensional optical probe from a fiber optic to uniformly collect illumination and measure the consistency of an asymmetrical curing chamber. From results, gave recommendations on how to improve chamber illumination for consistency to assure uniformity in curing. Invited to shadow pancreas islet biopsy in the clean room for efforts.

I have a strong working knowledge of the physical sciences and their application to complex biological systems. At Tutoring Club I used this understanding to explain the world around students in a fun, interesting, and interactive way. I quickly became the head STEM tutor; working with the most advanced students, creating homework answer keys and curriculums for other tutors.
